Convert PDF to an Editable Word Document
A PDF knows where every character is, but not which ones form a paragraph or a table. That is what has to be rebuilt when you convert PDF to Word. Simple documents come out almost perfect; pages with several columns may need a little tidying up.
What the browsers cannot perform efficiently is this reconstruction process; this is precisely why this application, different from all our other applications, operates server-side using the LibreOffice engine.
We do not break our promise, as the document gets processed and then deleted right away, nothing gets saved; we mark scanned PDFs that are essentially images of text and not text documents.
Our PDF to DOCX converter uses LibreOffice, an open source software suite widely used by governments worldwide. It is run on our server since no web browser can recreate a Word layout properly.
How to Use the PDF to Word Tool
This is the one tool here that runs on our server, because converting a layout needs a full document engine. Your file travels over HTTPS, gets converted, and is deleted.
The LibreOffice suite, used by many European governments, reconstructs your PDF document as a DOCX file.
Just open in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or LibreOffice and start editing.
Designed pages with many columns are the tricky ones. Look over the result and fix any spacing. The FAQ below has the details.
Why is PDF to Word the hardest conversion in this toolbox?
In a PDF, there is knowledge of the position of every glyph but no knowledge that the glyphs make up paragraphs, columns, and table cells. Conversion into Word involves making the inference. Simple documents convert almost perfectly while fancy multi-column documents are where all converters, including Adobe's, have to guess.
The honest part
Something that cannot be done by any browser is the reconversion, and hence the reason for running this program on the server side using the LibreOffice program. In an effort to keep the bargain clean, there is no storage of any data whatsoever; rather, it gets destroyed right away; also, the scanned PDFs are detected and not mangled.

| What matters | Clever PDF Tools | Typical converter site |

The PDF to Word in Real Student Life
How to convert PDF to Word
Simply upload the PDF file, press Convert, and within a few seconds, your file will be available for download in .docx format.
If you were looking for how to convert PDF to Word or how to change PDF to Word, here is everything that you need to know.
PDF to DOCX, PDF to DOC and Word files
This converter will save the file in DOCX format, which can be opened by any version of Word currently in use.
Another search that people often do is for PDF to DOC or for converting PDF to DOC, which is taken care of by the DOCX format as well: simply open the file and save it as a .doc file if needed. So it works as a PDF to DOC converter, a PDF to DOCX converter and a PDF to Word doc converter at once.
PDF to Word to edit, not to retype
Converting PDF to Word is useful if the text must be modified: CVs, handouts for notes, a contract with a different date, etc.
In this case, you will receive a PDF to Word document that contains real text and not just an image of the page. After the editing is finished, return the document back to PDF via Word to PDF.
Scanned PDFs and PDF to Word OCR
Since the scanned document is a picture without any text on it, an OCR process has to be carried out first.
Run the scanned document through the Image to Text tool first, and then work with the text it finds. The conversion tool will flag scans but not produce gibberish.
How to turn a PDF into a Word doc privately
Wondering how to turn PDF into Word without giving it away to strangers?
Your document conversion will be done on our own server using the LibreOffice suite, without going through any third party websites; once your DOCX file is converted, your PDF document is automatically deleted. No registration or watermarks involved.
PDF to Word and back
Word for changes such as editing, commenting, or reorganization. PDF for formatting that needs to be frozen, such as submitting, printing, signing, archiving.
Most documents will complete the loop at least once, and completing the loop consciously as opposed to battling against a PDF editor is what makes all the difference between 5 minutes and an afternoon.
Everyday users of this tool
The job applicant customizing a resume for each online application portal, the student converting class materials from handouts into notes, the team using PDFs but needing Word. They all convert and none of them wants to subscribe for it.
Three fixes that solve most problems
- Conversion returned a messy layout. A multi-column layout in magazines or elaborate graphic design is always the difficult part of conversion. Normal reports, essays, and resumes come out fine.
- Nothing converted from my scan. A scanned page is an image without text. First run it through Image to Text, and then proceed with conversion.
- The file was rejected. We check two things first: the file has to be under 50 MB, and it has to really be a PDF. A file that was only renamed to .pdf gets turned away, so you don't end up with a broken document.
The vocabulary around pdf to words
- DOCX — The modern Word format generated by this converter is editable on Word, Google Docs, and LibreOffice.
- Scanned PDFs — A scan is an image; without an OCR layer no text can be extracted, so please use our Image to Text tool first.
- Layout fidelity — Standard documents format easily, but documents using multiple columns will need some reformatting.
- Editable text — The point of the conversion: text you can rewrite rather than annotate.
Same tool, many names
Whatever way you described it, this is the page for you: one quick conversion tool that values your time and your privacy rather than several shallow conversions strewn all over the site. Bookmark it under whatever name you use:
Yes. No registration, no watermark, no daily paywall. It will be here for next semester as well.
One page per tool is done intentionally. Otherwise, we have the traditional approach to SEO where we create dozens of pages which are all close copies of each other, one per phrase. This is what brings the searchers nothing but a set of pages which are very similar and do not offer any value at all. We would like this page to be that valuable page: fast, complete, honest about its limitations, and useful enough to come back to it again.
That is also why the navigation above includes full names of tools and not creative names: you will know where to go once the next job comes along by reading, not by guesswork. The entire set is designed for navigation by an inexperienced person in a hurry, and that is all of us at deadline time.
PDF to Word FAQ
Simply upload the PDF document above and click on Convert. You will be able to download your editable .docx file in just a couple of seconds.
Certainly. You receive natural flowing text instead of an image scan. All fonts, tables, and illustrations are rebuilt in such a way that allows editing.
Simple and medium-formatted documents: yes, almost always. Complicated and multi-column layouts or designed documents: mostly, sometimes with minor adjustments for spacing. This is the case with every converter available, but we're the ones to tell you so.
Not directly. A scan is a photo of text, so it needs OCR first. The tool spots scans and tells you, instead of giving you nonsense.
No. The conversion happens in a separate temporary folder and is automatically purged once your DOCX is ready. No copies are stored and no records are kept of the file content.
For recreating the structure of documents, you need a whole office suite (LibreOffice), which cannot work in browsers. Everything that can work in this toolset works locally.
