Why This Weighted Grade Calculator Is Different
Free weighted grade calculator: just add each category with its weight and your score as per your syllabus. Calculate your course grade and find out what letter grade will appear on your transcript. Nothing leaves your browser.
How to Use the Free Weighted Grade Calculator
Look at your syllabus: homework, quizzes, midterm, participation, the final. Make a row for each one and put in its percentage.
Do not enter any category if it is not graded yet; the calculator will provide you with your score for the graded material along with its percentage share.
The weights get checked before you’ve typed a single grade. Only graded categories go into the result. The letter grade comes from the exact, unrounded number, and if you’re close to a cutoff you’ll see a couple of extra decimal places.
100% Free — Here Is Why That Is Sustainable
No server needed: the tool runs as JavaScript in your browser, therefore not costing us anything per use. This is the reason why it's free, and why your grades, notes, or signatures remain on your device.
No. Calculations run in your browser, nothing is transmitted, and a refresh clears everything. Reset restores the five starting categories and their weights, clears scores and removes messages.
The Weighted Grade Calculator in Real Student Life
How to calculate weighted grade
To calculate grade averages by hand, multiply each score by its weight, add those values together and divide by the total weight.
This is the weighted grade formula, which is what the calculator uses as you enter your data. For example, 90 at weight 20 and 80 at weight 30 give (90 × 20 + 80 × 30) ÷ 50 = 84%.
Weighted average calculator vs a plain average
A simple average gives the same weight to a 5% quiz as to a 40% final. A weighted average calculator follows the syllabus; this is why homework that is done well makes little difference to a grade based mostly on exams.
The math is the same for any weighted score calculator task: how to calculate weighted average is always score times weight, divided by total weight.
A class grade calculator with weights
Simply copy the categories as they appear on your syllabus, for instance homework 20%, quizzes 15%, midterm 25%, final 30%. This grade calculator with weights will calculate your course grade as well as the letter grade on the standard grading scale.
If you haven't received a grade yet in a category, simply leave that category's score blank and this overall grade calculator will only factor in the grades that have been entered.
Grade calculator by points or percentage
Scores are in percentages, so it works as a grade percentage calculator automatically. Have points? Just divide your points by the total and multiply by 100, then input the answer.
Want the score you need to get on the exam instead? That grade calculator final question has its own tool: the Final Grade Calculator.
An easy grade calculator for college, no app
This easy grade calculator comes free and can be used in any browser without installing a grade calculator app. It is perfect as a grade calculator for college or school, and UK percentage marks work the same way.
Nothing is uploaded and refreshing will clear everything. A weighted grade calc you can bookmark for the whole term.
Why not just use a spreadsheet?
A spreadsheet works after you have built it and verified the formula. Here the formula is already correct, and the tool alerts you if the weight percentages do not add up to 100%.
It will also leave out categories which have not been graded yet, something very easy to get wrong in spreadsheets.
Everyday users of this tool
Students wondering where they stand prior to the drop date, students determining how significant the next test is, and tutors going over a syllabus during office hours.
Three fixes that solve most problems
- Weights do not add up to 100%. The calculator tells you and works with the weight that you have entered. Check your syllabus for a missing category, or just leave it as it is in the middle of the semester.
- The grade looks too high or too low. Make sure that the scores you have are percentages, not points. If necessary, convert the points into percentages first: points ÷ total × 100.
- A category counts as zero. A blank score is skipped; however, 0 is counted as a zero and lowers your average. If a category has not been graded, leave the box blank, rather than put 0 in the box.
Same tool, many names
No matter how you expressed yourself, this is your page: one fast weighted grade calculator that respects both your time and your privacy, not 12 poor clones lying around the web. Feel free to bookmark it by any name you choose:
Of course: no registration, no watermark and no daily paywall. It will still be here next semester.
One page for each job is deliberate. Near-identical pages for every wording are standard SEO, and they're the reason looking for a basic tool is a slog. We'd rather build one good page that's quick, complete and upfront about what it can't do.
This is why the navigation above links to complete tool names and not cute nicknames: when your next job comes around, you will know where to go by reading, not guessing. The whole set is designed for someone in a rush who has never seen it before, and on a deadline, that is all of us.
Weighted Grade Calculator FAQ
Multiply the scores for each category by their weights, add them up, and divide by the sum of the weights used. Thus, a homework score of 90 percent at a weight of 20, together with a midterm of 80 percent at a weight of 30, gives (90×0.2 + 80×0.3) ÷ 0.5 = 84%. The calculator above does this for any number of categories.
A straight average would make your 5% quiz worth as much as your 40% final, and that is not how the course is weighted. That reflects the syllabus. In addition, that is why a good record on homework does little to raise a grade when exams are heavily weighted.
Weights that don’t total 100% always get flagged. The score is based on whatever categories you’ve graded so far, and you’re shown how much of your entered weight that covers (not how much of the course). Categories with a blank score or a weight of zero are skipped.
Leave it blank. It is not counted in the total, and the tool tells you what percentage of the course remains incomplete, which is useful for finding out how much room you have left.
Different question, different tool. The Final Grade Calculator figures out what you need on the exam. Use this one to see where you are now, and that one to set your target.
